Curacao is a small Caribbean island that serves as the administrative capital of the Dutch Antilles; Aruba and Bonaire being two sister islands of the Lesser Netherlands Antilles. There are more than 30 land houses, the large and rich occupations of landowners of former plantations, remains from its once Dutch colonization. Many are open to the public, include a small museum, rent out horses and offer history tours. There are plenty of natural attractions such as Sheta Boca National Park with its phenomenal cave Boca Tabla, the flora and fauna of Christoffel National Park, the Hato Plains with the popular Hato Caves and the flocks of flamingoes at the saltpans of Jan Kok. For excellent viewpoints and panoramas you can hike towards Mt Christoffel, follow the track at Sunset Heights or enjoy the long Banda Abao trail.
Westpunt, Santa Martha Bay, San Juan bay and Port Marie offer beautiful bays with white sandy beaches perfect for water activities such as swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving. Nearby are Jan Thiel Bay, the Curacao Sea Aquarium and the inland lakes Spanish Water (Caracas Bay) and St Jorisbaai. At twenty kilometers east of Punt Kanon you can dive the stunning and remote island Klein Curacao, an uninhabited pristine islands known for its excellent beaching, snorkeling and scuba diving.
